When To Use Oxalic Acid Vaporization:

Vaporizing varroa mites with oxalic acid is an excellent way to kill mites. But like all mite treatments, it works better at certain times of the year and in particular situations. Vaporization is nearly 100% effective against mites inside the hive, but not in underneath the wax capping.

Because OA cannot penetrate the wax capping, it is most effective when a hive is without capped brood. This is during the winter for most areas of the US, after collecting a swarm, after a colony has sent a swarm out and during re-queening events when the hive has a brood break. These are all excellent times to use oxalic acid vapor.

Usage Instructions

Turn on the vaporizer to preheat it to 445°F, and then fill the plunger with oxalic acid. Insert the stem into a drilled 1/4-inch hole or the hive entrance. Release the oxalic acid by tapping the plunger, allowing it to vaporize instantly. Each treatment takes around 20-30 seconds. Make sure to monitor the battery voltage and wear protective gear to avoid exposure to oxalic acid fumes.
